Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2019, Volume 20, Issue 5,   Pages 591-607 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1800633

Abstract:

We give a brief review of the developments in terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS) systems and microcavity components for probing samples in the University of Shanghai for Science and Technology. The broadband terahertz (THz) radiation sources based on GaAs m-i-n diodes have been investigated by applying high electric fields. Then, the free space THz-TDS and fiber-coupled THz-TDS systems produced in our lab and their applications in drug/cancer detection are introduced in detail. To further improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and enhance sensitivity, we introduce three general micro-cavity approaches to achieve tiny-volume sample detection, summarizing our previous results about their characteristics, performance, and potential applications.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 9,   Pages 1270-1276 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000278

Abstract: A tunable stepped-impedance resonator using is demonstrated. Two resonant frequencies at 3.367 and 7.198 GHz are realized and can be continuously tuned by external applied voltages. Continuous tunable ranges of 52 and 210 MHz have been achieved at a particularly low driving voltage of 14 V, which shows good agreement with the simulation results. The voltage-induced hysteresis phenomenon is also investigated. This device also has a low insertion loss of −2.9 and −4 dB for the two resonant frequencies and the return losses are less than −21.5 dB. This work provides a new protocol to realize a tunable frequency for communication systems.

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 8,   Pages 1104-1113 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2000229

Abstract: This paper presents a study of s in submillimeter and terahertz bands. To show the necessity of improving the mechanical properties of the coupler’s branch in submillimeter and terahertz bands, a comprehensive study regarding the displacement of hybrid branch variation with varying width-length ratio and height-length ratio has been completed. In addition, a modified is designed and presented. Compared with the traditional branch structure, the proposed hybrid consists of a modified middle branch with circular cutouts at the top and bottom on both sides instead of the traditional rectangle branch, which increases the branch size and improves its while achieving the same performance. Simulation results show that the deformation of the modified hybrid branch is 22% less than those of other traditional structure designs under the same stress. In practice, a vibration experiment is set up to verify the of hybrid couplers. Measurement results show that the experiment deteriorates the coupling performance. Experimental results verify that the performance of the novel structure coupler is better than that of a traditional structure branch hybrid coupler under the same electrical properties.

An array of two periodic leaky-wave antennas with sum and difference beam scanning for application in target detection and tracking Research Article

Mianfeng HUANG, Juhua LIU,liujh33@mail.sysu.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 4,   Pages 567-581 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.2200473

Abstract: An array of two periodic leaky-wave s (LWAs) with scanning is proposed for application in . The array is composed of two periodic LWAs with different periods, in which each LWA generates a narrow beam through the =-1 space harmonic. Due to the two different periods for the two LWAs, two beams with two different directions can be realized, which can be combined into a sum beam when the array is fed in phase or into a difference beam when the array is fed 180° out of phase. The array integrated with 180° hybrid is designed, fabricated, and measured. Measurement results show that the sum beam can reach a gain up to 15.9 dBi and scan from -33.4° to 20.8°. In the scanning range, the direction of the null in the difference beam is consistent with the direction of the sum beam, with the lowest null depth of -40.8 dB. With the excellent performance, the provides an alternative solution with low complexity and low cost for .
